The Reign of Harald Bluetooth
Harald’s reign started when his father died a he inherited his dad’s kingdom. During his rule Harold accomplished many things such as conquering all of Denmark and strengthening their defences Harald also changed the Danish religion from Norse to Christianity. Harald started his reign after Erik Bloodaxe king of Norway died in battle (his sister’s husband) and helped his nephews reclaim lands from the new king Hakon. His nephews were assassinated after they had made allies with former enemies witch were the ones who assassinated them. Bluetooth took advantage of the assassination and claimed his nephews lands claiming all of Norway. When the Roman Emperor Otto the great’s son Otto II and successor were fighting in Italy Harald decided to take the opportunity and sent his son Svein Forkbeard southward and also sent his father in law king of Wendland and invaded Brandburg and Holstein the Emperor couldn’t handle the attacks and Harold reclaimed Denmark. Over the next two years Harald had lost all his lands and everything he had done. Harald took refuge from his own son in Wendland. Harald was then killed in battle by his own son , Svein Frokbeard, on November 1st 985AD.
